Lake D’Averno, what to see
Visit Lake Avernus: Lake Avernus lies in the area of the Phlegrean Fields and is a vivid example of a wonderful natural phenomenon: according to Virgil’s account, this body of water was crossed by Aeneas to meet his father Anchises in the realm of the dead.
And the setting seems to be ideal for guarding something mythological, with exhalations of hydrogen and sulfur that prevented the birth of any form of life.
Lake Avernus is of volcanic origin and rises in a 4,000-year-old crater in the Campi Flegrei area near the Gulf of Pozzuoli, an area characterized by the presence of low volcanic reliefs.
Its maximum depth is 34 meters and it is set in a green setting made up of forests.
Lake Averno is a naturalistic oasis full of charm and rich in history, one of the places to visit and include in a tour when you are in the Campi Flegrei area.
